Solar Incentives Available in Kansas
The state of Kansas exempts the 1.37% property tax for commercial businesses that install solar on their buildings. The tax exemption is applicable only for the 10 taxable years immediately following the solar project's completion.
Utility companies in Kansas are required to offer net metering for commercial businesses with solar installations. Business owners with solar systems smaller than 150 kW can receive credits for the net excess generation their system produces at the utility’s monthly system average cost of energy per kWh.
Kansas businesses can take advantage of the federal Energy Investment Tax Credit program. This allows businesses to claim 30% of their solar system costs as a federal tax credit, and additional tax credits are available depending on the district.
