Hello -

I'm trying to understand the specs on the SMA Sunny Island 4548.

If the SMA Sunny Island 4548 says it is CEC 94% efficient, is that the efficiency of the battery energy to the ac grid energy

What does the 6.7 kW max input mean?  Is that on the grid side or the solar side?

Thanks!

The sunny island inverter is not a grid tied inverter. You cannot connect it to the grid. I'm not real familiar with sunnyboy inverters but i can tell you that the model no. indicates it is a 4.5 kw inveter that gets it's power from a 48 volt battery bank instead of directly from solar arrays. One kw is equal to 1000 watts hence 4.5 kw would be 4500 watts of power. The 6.7 kw would be 6700watts. Again do not attemp to connect this model to the grid. The 94% efficiency rating is how efficient it converts battery power to A/C power.

After further research i have discovered this may be both an on grid or off grid inverter. Disregard that part of my comment. Just make sure it is.
