I read your article on AC Coupling.  I have a customer with an 1800 watt grid tied system.  He has a Fronius IG 2000 inverter.  He wants to also have a battery back up.  We were going to price him out a battery back up system which would have to replace his inverter.  Can you add battery back up without changing the inverter?   How would this work?

MG,

As you saw in the article AC Coupling, there are three options besides the SMA Sunny Island / Sunny Boy combination: Outback, Xantrex and Magnum Energy.

Of these three, the Magnum MS-PAE inverter is the best choice for overall simplicity and support - the 2000W Fronius meets the requirement of being 90% or less in rated output than the 4400W capacity of the Magnum PAE.
