Can you tell me what I need to run a 3/4 HP, 230 volt AC pool pump directly from solar cells. When the sun hits the cells and generates enough energy I want the pump to start and when the sun is down the pump stops. No batteries, no grid connect.

I have been told that I can do this by using 3 - 240 watt solar cells and an inverter but before I purchase the equipment I would like an expert opinion.

Thanks

That pump is about 500W - so the 3 x 240 modules have enough available energy to run it in theory.
The problem is that the panels put out DC (as you already know) - and the inverter has no reserve capacity without a battery - nor do the panels.
You will either have to have some batteries or change the AC motor to a DC motor with a DC motor controller - then it can be run solar-direct.
