Does the height of the battery include the post on top?  How much space is required on top for ventilation if I have the batteries in a enclosure or a small space?  Thanks-

Comments

Yes.  The height is to the top of the post or terminal.

Ventilation:  Ideally, we would like to see a "minimum" of six inches.  Additionally, try to keep the batteries seperated to provide additional air flow between the cases.

When solar batteries "gass off", is there any thing to be concerned about with the gas that is released from the batteries?   Is any gas actually released?

Gass off:  batteries will  release gases and/or vent as a result of overcharging.  These gases, such as hydrogen, will attach themselves to a metal or lead surface, such as the lead posts.  This is a good indicator that you "might" be experiencing a charging related problem.

Additionally, temperature compensated / voltage regulated chargers are recommended to assure that batteries are being properly charged based on the ambient temperature swings.
