Solar Incentives in Washington
Washington exempts solar power and heating systems from the state’s 6.5% sales tax. That means if a business purchased a system for $100,000 it would save $6,500 in taxes.
The Renewable Energy System Incentive Program (RESIP) allows participating utilities to pay customers for every kilowatt-hour of electricity they generate from their own solar systems. Commercial participation is capped at $25,000 per year, or $35,000 for shared systems. For further details, visit the official report.
In Washington, Net Metering is still available to solar owners. The state's three major utilities- Puget Sound Energy, Avista and Pacific Power & Light Corporation) all offer similar terms for net metering. Details are available on their respective websites.
