Solar Incentives Available in Michigan

Michigan exempts the 1.54%% property tax for commercial businesses that install solar on their buildings. Businesses that install solar systems 150 kW or less can qualify for this exemption, and they must offset all or a portion of the energy the property uses.

Michigan's distributed generation program allows commercial businesses with solar systems sell the excess energy that their system generates back to utility companies at the utility's wholesale value.

Michigan businesses can take advantage of the federal Energy Investment Tax Credit program. This allows businesses to claim 30% of their solar system costs as a federal tax credit, and additional tax credits are available depending on the district.

What is the REAP Grant (Rural Energy for America Program)?

The USDA's "Rural Energy for America Program," or “REAP,” offers a grant designed to encourage agricultural and rural businesses to maximize their energy efficiency with solar.
