Why do the PV Source Circuits in a solar array require over current protection?
If a solar array is an isolated source of power / current, why does it require over current protection?

Under the NEC 690.9 pv source circuits require overcurrent protection. A DC circuit of 400V and 8A can deliver a lot of power and easily cause a fire if there is a short caused by equipment failure or mechanical damage.
