What size solar PV system do I need for my off grid cabin?

I have a very small primitive cabin that I'm working on in the Sierra mountains. Right now we have a small generator, but it is quite loud at night and I'd prefer to stop trucking in fuel for it. If I want to run my laptop (about 60-70 watts), a few lights (20-40 watts), the stereo, and maybe a hot plate (500-1000 watts) what size system would I be looking at?

The hot plate isn't as necessary, but if I could store some power and run it for half an hour in the evenings, that would be fantastic. Otherwise, I could ditch it and stick with propane for my cooking needs.

So my question is, about how many panels would I need? And how large of a battery bank would this type of project require?
