I noticed on solar panel data sheets they often refer to STC. What does it stand for?
Comments
STC stands for standard test conditions. The output of solar module are characterized by performance curves called I-V curves which is the relationship between current and voltage. Most I-V curves are given for STC of 1,000 watts per square meter of solar irradiance at 25 degrees C (77 degrees F) cell temperature. The key thing to know is that panels are name plate rated at STC which are optimal conditions as a consistent means for measuring rarely are these conditions reached in real-world conditions.
