Would you recommend the AGM or the Gel batteries for a remote cabin that is subject to extreme cold-weather conditions?  How can I ensure that I get maximum performance out of my batteries when dealing with long periods of low temperatures?

Comments

Both AGM and GEL batteries are tolerant of low temperatures.

To ensure maximum life, it is important to fully recharge after each discharge.

Also, use a temperature compensated, voltage regulated charger and make certain to follow the recommended bulk, absorb and float voltage settings.

For cyclic applications, reduce your DoD (depth of discharge) to 50% or less.
