I have a large, south facing garage roof that faces south, just begging to be covered with PV laminate. I see that Uni-Solar laminate is made 15.5 inches wide. But my garage's standing-seam steel roof has lengthwise running ribs that are spaced 8 inches apart, for stiffness.

Can PV Laminate be installed over a rib, that is, with a rib running up its center? I hope the question is clear.

Yes, the question is clear - good explanation of the situation! But no, the laminate has to be installed flat on the roofing material.

The better option would be S5! clamps to clamp to the seam itself. You would then use regular modules and / or racking.  More about S5! here: Standing Seam Clamps
