An existing system has one string of nine ES-A-200 panels connected to an ABB PVI-5000-OUTD-US-A inverter. Since the inverter is capable of multiple independent strings, can an additional string be added which does not match the number of modules in the existing string?

Hi Anon,
You correctly noted that this inverter has 2 maximum power point tracking channels. This means you do not compromise inverter efficiency if the new string (of mismatched length) is on the other tracker. You may also string new panels on the other channel (but be sure the new string is comprised of the same modules).
Be sure the S1 switch in your inverter is toggled in the IND mode for use with dual MPPT.
