What is the maximum PV voltage input for a Morningstar PS 30 Charge Controller?

Comments

Since the Pro Star 30 is a PWM type controller, the PV voltage should match the battery voltage - about 17Vdc at max power for 12V systems or about 28Vdc for 24V systems.

I need to run 54 volts DC 65 feet to a battery bank. The reasons for doing this have to do with where the sun is,  where the shade is to keep the batteries cool and, of course, the size of the wire. (I am running #6 copper wire). Is it possible to step the 54 volts DC down to circa 18 volts DC. The 18 volts DC would go into the charge controller and then into a 12 volt batter bank.

Thanks.

You'd have to switch to a Controller that can accept a higher voltage - most likely a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charge controller.

Morningstar Tristar MPPT 45

This charge controller can accept up to 150Vdc.
