In a salt water area where corrosion is an issue, is there any significant benefit of choosing a stainless steel battery box over one that is powder coated aluminum?

In my opinion, stainless steel is the only option for salt air. Powder coated aluminum will resist corrosion for a while, but the powder coating is not impervious and will allow exposure to moisture.
Both can work, but the powder coated finish will probably not last as long as the stainless if the stainless is a high quality alloy. Any scratch or abrasion of the powder coat will allow the aluminum to begin corroding, which will then expose more aluminum...
