I'd like to upgrade my Sunny Boy SWR 2500U inverter to include data transmission. The user manual says: "The Sunny
Boy is prepared for data transmission. By simply plugging on a piggy
back module it supports transmission via Powerline, RS232 or RS485
interfaces."
Sunny Boy tells me that the upgrade for this unit is
still available but SMA America does not sell retail and that I have to
contact a local installer to get the details.
Can you order the necessary part from Sunny Boy and either
(1) let me install it or
(2) you install it?
Is
the installation/user manual available for this upgrade so that I can
prepare myself for what I'll have to do to effect successful data
transmission and monitoring?
Many thanks,

Oliver-
Sorry for the time lag on getting this question answered. Yes, adding monitoring to a SMA inverter is a very simple solution. There are two paths you can take:
Use a SMA RS485 Sunny Boy Communication Card and feed the data to the SMA Sunny WebBox which gets pushed to the web for remote monitoring
or
A less expensive option is to use the SMA Sunny Beam w/ Bluetooth. With this option you still need the SMA Sunny Beam Bluetooth card so that the inverter can communicate with the Sunny Beam. Also it really depends on how far your inverters are from your Sunny Beam.
Here are a few articles that will help with your decision.
What is the difference between Sunny Beam with Bluetooth and Standard Sunny Beam?
How far does the bluetooth cover?
We have six Sunny Boy SWR 2500U inverters that were providing, until last November, web-based data via Fat Spaniel RS485 interface through our installer's now-defunct website. What do we need to do to get the monitoring going again?
Thanks,
