I have been planning a small, solar system for my home primarily to run my well pump. Today I realized that in winter I will have some significant mid day shading from the mountain which is about a half mile south of my house. Around noon the panels will be in full shade for about half an hour. Will this type of shading do any permanent damage the solar modules?

Good question. The answer is that the shade will not damage the panels at all, however, during the shading hours your power production will be dramatically reduced depending upon the degree of shading. If the panels are fully shaded, you will produce minimal power if any. When the sun shines on the panels later in the afternoon, they will start to produce power again. Good luck with your project.
